Obama: The Disciple of Karl Marx (Part 1)

November 11, 2011

As the old saying goes, “You can eat pork with a spoon. You can eat it with a fork. It’s still pork.”  Regardless of whether it’s called social justice, wealth redistribution or liberation theology; the dominant force coming from Washington D.C. today is socialism.

Saying this out loud only runs the risk of you being demagogued as extremist, greedy, racist, a hater, right-wing nut or all of the above.

Why, oh why do so many Americans view President Obama as a socialist?  Is it such a stretch of the imagination to identify the current leader of the free world as a disciple of Karl Marx? Let’s examine some evidence and then you make a decision for yourself.

BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY

Reverend Wright (Yes, I went there….again)

You’ve often heard the “kooks” pounding on the fact that Obama was influenced by 20 years of attending Reverend Wright’s church.  Despite the infamous media sound bites of his hatred of America, you have to ask yourself what shaped this preacher’s worldview.  In the September 2009 edition of the Monthly Review, Reverend Wright admitted the following:

My work with liberation theology, with Latin American theologians, with the Black Theology Project and with the Cuban Council of Churches taught me thirty years ago the importance of MARX and the MARXIST analysis of the social realities of the vulnerable and the oppressed who were trying desperately to break free of the political economics undergirded by this country that were choking them and cutting off any hope of a possible future where all of the people would benefit.”

After 20 years of attendance, how many times was Obama supposed to miss church again to avoid this kind of “preaching”?

Malik Shabazz – Chairman of the New Black Panther Party

In March of 2007, then-Senator Barack Obama was a keynote speaker as he campaigned in Selma,Alabama’s Brown Chapel A.M.E. church.  Malik Shabazz (National Chairman of the New Black Panther Party) also shared the stage with him and was in the audience during Obama’s speech.  As a proponent of Black Liberation Theology, Shabazz participated in the following dialogue on the John Batchlor show:

John Batchlor: What is it that he [Obama] said either in Selma, Alabama or that you’ve seen him say recently that particularly pleased you?

Malik Shabazz: “Well, when he was in Selma, when he spoke at the black church there and he was able to again draw out of the tenets of black liberation theology. Because he was teaching about the story of Moses and Pharaoh and the children of Israel and the Pharaoh as it is written in the Torah or the Old Testament. And he was drawing the comparison to the struggle for justice through slavery here in America and comparing us to the children of Israel. And so I knew that he had a…a based in some sound theology that is rooted in our community. And at that point I knew that he…he understood what was going on.”

Socialists Recognize Their Own

Looks like Obama surely “missed enough” Black Liberation Theology sermons at Reverend Wright’s church to preach one himself in Selma, Alabama.

It’s important to note that the New Black Panther Party is really nothing new at all from its original roots of the 1960’s. “From tenets from Maoism, they set the role of their Party as the vanguard of the revolution and worked to establish a united front, while from Marxism they addressed the capitalist economic system, embraced the theory of dialectical materialism, and represented the need for all workers to forcefully take over the means of production.”  (Source:http://www.marxists.org/history/usa/workers/black-panthers/ )

Some readers may ask, what exactly is Black Liberation Theology and what does it have to do with Karl Marx?

Black liberation theology was founded in the 1960’s by Mr. James Cones in response to the Civil Rights Movement.  While claiming Christianity to be its theological base, it denies the “fixed doctrine” that Jesus Christ died on the cross to redeem mankind from his sins.  The crucifixion is merely analogous to the lynchings of black people in their view.   It is rooted in racism and black social justice rhetoric (i.e. wealth redistribution).  Speaking to the racist element of this philosophy, James Cones quoted the following in his writing titled Black Power & Black Theology:

Black Theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.”

Pretty Christian-like, loving words, huh?

In this view, the white man who holds all the wealth of this nation needs to give it back to the black man. This is where the teachings of Karl Marx comes into play (as the white man is predominantly the bourgeois and the black man is predominantly the proletariat).  In Mr. Cones essay entitled,The Black Church and Marxism: What Do They Have to Say to Each Other he often compares Black Liberation Theology with Marxism.  Here is an exert:

No one has the right to control by private ownership the necessities of human life.  If the black churches do not take a stand against capitalism and for democratic socialismfor Karl Marx and against Adam Smith, for the poor in all colors and against the rich of all colors, for the workers and against the corporations, how can we expect socialistsMarxists, and other freedom fighters to believe us when we sing:

            ‘Oh Freedom! Oh Freedom!

            ‘Oh Freedom! I love thee!

I’ll be buried in my grave,

And go home to my Lord and be free.’

There’s more to come in Obama: The Disciple of Karl Marx (Part 2)……
