The Public School System: A Cesspool of Liberalism

“Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.” (Albert Herlong Jr., Florida Congressman, 1963)

Sounds radical, doesn’t it?  Has our public school system become a cesspool of leftist indoctrination? Or is Albert Herlong one lost loon?  I would be inclined to answer ‘yes’ to all three of the aforementioned questions.

There is an ideological war for the American child’s mind and unfortunately, liberals have been very instrumental in turning each generation’s brains into useless mush.  English, history, math and reading are being replaced by tolerance, anti-patriotism and other useless information.  I never thought I’d see the day when a first grader could be given condoms in school. Yes, you read that right. I said first grader.

As a product of the public school system myself, I remember being taught many fallacies and downright myths such as:

  • The Constitution says that black people are 3/5’s of a human being
  • FDR’s New Deal saved America from the Great Depression
  • Macro-Evolution is science
  • Laissez-faire economics is bad
  • Disdain for our Founding Fathers
  • And much more…

Many people are not even aware of the fact that America is a Constitutional Republic and NOT a democracy!

This type of indoctrination did not happen over night. Progressives have been chipping away at the foundation of truth for decades. Take Dr. Harold Rugg for example. He was a progressive that sought use schools to indoctrinate children and change the political environment to liberalism in the 1930’s.  In his book dedicated to teachers, The Great Technology, he wrote:

“…through the schools of the world we shall disseminate a new conception of government-one that will embrace all of the collective activities of men; one that will postulate the need for scientific control and economic activities in the interest of all people.”

It is important to note that he also authored 14 social studies books that were used to “teach” five million school children.*(Report, Spec. Comm. To Investigate Tax Exempt Foundations, 83rd Cong. Pg. 150)  With many of his books, the founding fathers, other American heroes and the Constitution was downgraded.

Even later in 1947 the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural  Organization sought to destroy the idea of patriotism and replace it with internationalism. The following Commission Reports read:

“The role which education will play officially must be conditioned essentially by policies established in the State Department in this country, and by ministries of foreign affairs in other countries.”

UNESCO and other progressives often viewed homeschooling as a road block to their socialist mission. In their eyes, “before the child enters school his mind has already been profoundly marked, and often injuriously, by earlier influences…first gained…in the home.” (Ibid, Volume V, In the Classroom with Children Under Thirteen Years of Age)

To circumvent this situation of ‘profoundly marked’ children, UNESCO proposed that “kindergarten or infant school has a significant part to play in the child’s education. Not only can it correct many of the errors of home training but it can also prepare the child for membership, at about age seven, in a group of his own age and habits—the first of many such social identifications that he must achieve on his way to membership in the world society.”  With that seed of anti-patriotism being planted in our textbooks over 60 years ago, it is no wonder why the Star Spangled Banner is being deemed as too violent in schools today! (Ibid, page 9)

Parents, if you can afford to take your children out of the public school system, then I strongly urge you to do so.  If that suggestion is not a viable option for you, then please remember that it is your job to properly teach your child.  Do not take an apathetic approach to your kids’ education. Ask questions.  See what types of books they’re reading. Get involved with their homework.  Most importantly, assign them additional homework yourself.  Don’t be afraid to make them read the Constitution, Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence and other historical documents.  There is a concerted effort to erase our Judeo-Christian heritage and replace it with that of an amoral progressive agenda.
